Ballydrain Harriers will NOT be organising the Comber Christmas Cracker race again, but the good news is that Newcastle AC have stepped in and will be promoting a similar event at Castlewellan on Tuesday 28 December. The Christmas Cracker had become a popular and unique fixture on the winter athletics calendar with runners competing in teams of two over a varied all terrain course.

That same successful format will be used for the new event at Castlewellan which will cover a 15 kilometre course over forest tracks and road. Registration and changing will be at Castlewellan Football Club on Circular Road in the town for a 2pm start. The race is likely to attract a considerable entry including regular competitors from the Comber event and the Newcastle AC organisers will be providing an interesting and challenging course.
